SBNY 2017 NFL Mock Draft 2.0

This time of year is a tough time to mock, but with the combine in the rear view mirror and free agency here, it’s still fun to predict what will happen in Philadelphia on April 27th.

Here are a few thoughts I want to stand out:

With the Bears signing Mike Glennon and the 49ers signing Brian Hoyer, that is a clear indicator of what these scouts think of the top quarterbacks in this draft. Hoyer could be a gap quarterback and John Lynch can still draft Trubisky at #2, but with reports of Kirk Cousins at some point headed to San Francisco combined with the Hoyer signing, it doesn’t look good for Mitch to be a top pick. The Bears clearly aren’t interested in Trubisky or Watson, giving Mike Glennon a contract worth $14.5 million annually to be their starter.

Jonathan Allen’s arthritis in both his shoulder is a huge red flag and will cause him to fall. Arthritis doesn’t exactly get better over time, especially playing on the defensive line in the NFL. Allen is still a premier talent and a team starving for defensive talent like the Saints will take a flier on him.

Speaking of the Saints, I can see this crazy trade going down on draft night or right before. It goes like this:

Bill Belichick trades Jimmy Garoppolo to the Browns for the #12 pick.

He then swaps that #12 pick to the Saints for Brandin Cooks.

The Saints now have back-to-back picks and construct a powerful defensive line in Allen and Malik McDowell.

Reuben Foster’s “incident” at the combine shouldn’t be a concern at all. You want your middle linebackers to be nasty, and by all reports, Foster wasn’t that much at fault. You have to be off your noggin to be a middle linebacker. The Jets desperately need offense, but Foster can be a cornerstone on that defense for years.
